Anyone Else Facing 'Engine Power Reduced' in Their Chevy Traverse?

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my Chevy Traverse where the engine power is reduced, and it’s becoming really frustrating. Has anyone else had this problem? Here are some details about what I’ve noticed:

Symptoms:

  • Warning Message: The dashboard shows ‘Engine Power Reduced’.
  • Performance Issues: The vehicle accelerates slowly, and it feels like I’m driving with the brakes on.
  • Check Engine Light: It’s been on sporadically.

Possible Causes:

I’ve done a bit of research, and it seems like the issue could be due to several factors. From what I’ve gathered, it might involve:

  • Throttle Body Issues: Either a malfunction or build-up that’s restricting airflow.
  • Sensor Failures: Such as the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor or throttle position sensor.
  • Electrical Problems: Faulty wiring could be sending incorrect signals.

Steps I’ve Taken:

  1. Check for Codes: I used an OBD-II scanner to read any error codes.
  2. Thorough Inspection: I cleaned the throttle body, which helped somewhat, but the problem returned.
  3. Research Recalls: I checked for any recalls related to this issue but didn’t find anything directly related.

Seeking Advice:

I’m really hoping to find a solution before I end up at the dealer, which can be quite expensive. If anyone has faced this before, I would love to hear your experiences. What fixes worked for you? Any tips on what I should check next?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I’m also experiencing the ‘Engine Power Reduced’ message on my 2018 Traverse. It seems related to the throttle body! Has anyone else faced this?

Definitely! My mechanic mentioned that it could be a bad throttle position sensor. That might be worth checking out.

I had the same issue, and my dealership found a problem with the powertrain control module. Has anyone replaced theirs?

I haven’t replaced it, but I heard that’s a pricey fix! What did your dealership charge you?

It’s good to know I’m not alone in this! I just had my throttle body cleaned, but I’m still experiencing issues. Is it possible for it to fail again?

Unfortunately, yes! Sensor issues can recur if not fully addressed. Be sure to get a thorough diagnosis.

I’ve also read that sometimes new software updates can fix these problems. Has anyone had success with a software update?

I took mine in for an update, but it didn’t solve my issue. Still debating my next steps!

Why do cars have to be so dramatic?! If I wanted an anxiety attack, I’d just binge-watch horror movies. :joy:

I’ve experienced the ‘Engine Power Reduced’ warning too! My Traverse would suddenly lose power on the highway, making it super scary. Has anyone else had that happen?

Oh man, I feel your pain! Mine did something similar but also started stalling when I accelerated from a stop. Super frustrating!

I’ve noticed that my dashboard lights flicker whenever the power reduces. I thought it was just a weird glitch, but now I wonder if it’s connected to the engine issues.

That flickering makes sense. I had some warning lights pop up too. It’s as if the car was trying to tell me something was seriously wrong. What did your mechanic say?

My mechanic suggested it could be an issue with the throttle body. Has anyone else heard that before? I haven’t had the courage to get it fixed yet.

I had a similar diagnosis but my Traverse ended up needing a complete fuel system clean. It was a bit pricey, but worth it!

Has anyone experienced stalling while idling? I thought it was just congestion, but it actually died on me last week. Very concerning!

Yeah, my Traverse stalled at a red light! I was just sitting there, and it cut off completely. Talk about embarrassing! Any ideas on what caused it?
