CarPlay Stuck on 'Checking Phone for Messages' - Help!

I recently started having an issue with my Chevy where Apple CarPlay gets stuck on “Checking Phone for Messages” and it won’t show any notifications or let me send messages through Siri. I’ve tried reconnecting my phone and even resetting the infotainment system, but nothing seems to work.

Troubleshooting Steps Tried:

  • Restarted my iPhone
  • Unplugged and replugged the USB cable
  • Checked for software updates on both my iPhone and car’s system

I’m not sure if it’s a problem with the phone, the software, or something else entirely. If anyone has experienced this with their Chevy and found a solution, I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Questions:

  • Has anyone found a fix for this?
  • Does resetting the car’s system help?
  • Are there specific settings on the iPhone that need to be adjusted for CarPlay?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I’ve had this issue before! It usually happens when the phone’s Bluetooth connection isn’t stable. Try turning off Bluetooth on your phone and then turning it back on.

I agree! Another thing to check is if your phone’s iOS is updated. Sometimes an update fixes these connectivity issues.

I have also encountered this. Restarting both the car and the phone can do wonders. Sometimes, a simple reset is all that’s needed.

Yes! That’s a classic move. I also clear the CarPlay settings in my car’s system to start fresh. It helps if it’s been lagging.

I read somewhere that if your phone is low on storage, it can cause issues with CarPlay. Make sure you have enough free space so that everything runs smoothly!

That’s a good point! Sometimes I feel like my phone is a hoarder. To free up space, I delete unused apps and old messages.

Also, have you tried using a different USB cable? Faulty or low-quality cables can cause communication issues between your car and your phone.

Great suggestion! I had a similar problem when I used my friend’s old cable. Switched to my good one, and it worked like magic.

If problems persist, check the CarPlay settings on your iPhone. Sometimes restricting permissions can lead to glitches like this.

I had no idea about that! I’m going to look into my settings now. Thanks for the tip!

Does anyone else feel like technology is out to get them sometimes? My CarPlay worked fine one day and was stubborn the next. So frustrating!

Totally! It’s like the tech gods decide when they want things to work. Maybe they need a good laugh? I’m sure they enjoy watching us troubleshoot.

When all else fails, I always recommend checking the manufacturer’s website for any specific updates or fixes related to your car model’s CarPlay.

That’s a smart move! Some cars require specific settings to be enabled for CarPlay to work properly.

This might sound silly, but have you tried just giving your phone a shake? I read it somewhere, and it actually seemed to help my connection once!

Haha! That sounds like classic tech advice. If only shaking could fix my Wi-Fi issues too! Nonetheless, I’ll keep that in mind.

I had the same issue with my iPhone XR stuck on ‘Checking Phone for Messages.’ Make sure your car’s software is updated. Sometimes a simple update can fix connectivity issues.

That’s good advice! I found that my older car model had more compatibility issues with newer iPhone models. What car do you have?

I’m using an iPhone 12 with iOS 16, and CarPlay works great. Ensure you’re on at least iOS 15. Several features depend on having the latest software.
