Calibrating with an OBD-II scanner is a lifesaver! I used the Torque app on my phone. You get real-time data, and it makes the process super easy!

Any suggestions for inexpensive parts? I want to avoid dealer prices if possible.

Check out sites like RockAuto or Amazon. I’ve found reliable VSS replacements there for a fraction of the dealer’s price!

Here’s a pro tip: make sure to clean the connectors while you’re at it. Corrosion can lead to all sorts of issues!

Good call, albertsalas! I replaced a sensor once, and cleaning the connectors made such a difference. It’s the little things that matter!

I’ve had similar issues with my Silverado. I took it to Chevy Central Mechanics, and they specialize in speedometer repairs. They charged around $200 and fixed it in a few hours. Highly recommend them!

Wow, $200 seems reasonable! I had a quote from another place for $300. Any chance you could share where Chevy Central is located?

Check out ‘Silverado Speed Shop’ as well; they are known for their expertise with speedometer issues. It might take them a couple of days, though. I believe their pricing is similar to Chevy Central.

I had a speedometer fail, and it took forever to find a good mechanic. What specific issues were you experiencing? Sometimes it helps to describe the symptoms.

Mainly, it just stopped working. It would jump around occasionally but is now completely dead.

You could also consider DIY solutions. Sometimes it just needs a sensor replacement, and parts can be cheap. But getting a mechanic’s help is often safer!

Just remember to check reviews before choosing a mechanic! A friend had a bad experience with a shop that claimed to know Silverados, but their repairs didn’t hold up.

I love how everyone has their go-to shop! I went to a place that everyone raves about, and they replaced my speed sensor for about $150. Great service too!

Nice! But let’s be real, sometimes all these shops have the same fixes but different markups. It’s a gamble!

I tried fixing mine myself, and it was a disaster! Definitely recommend a pro unless you’re really handy. Better safe than sorry!

There’s definitely a bit of luck involved in picking a good mechanic! It’s like dating, sometimes you just have to kiss a few frogs. :joy:

Haha, love that analogy! But seriously, I’m leaning towards professional help after hearing your experiences.
