How Long Does It Take to Charge a Bolt EUV on Level 2?

I’ve been looking into getting a Chevrolet Bolt EUV, and one of the things that’s been on my mind is the charge time, especially when using a Level 2 charger. I want to make sure I fully understand what to expect, as charging times can greatly affect my daily routine.

Charging Time Expectations

From my research, I see that the Bolt EUV has a battery capacity of around 65 kWh. Using a Level 2 charger, which typically provides around 240 volts and 30 amps, I believe the charging speed can be approximately 25-30 miles of range per hour. If my calculations are correct, a full charge from empty might take around 7-8 hours on a Level 2 station.

Factors Affecting Charge Times

However, I know that several factors can influence charge times:

  • Battery State: Charging can slow down as the battery approaches full capacity in order to preserve battery health.
  • Charger Specifications: Not all Level 2 chargers are created equal, so it’s important to ensure your charger can deliver optimal power.
  • Environmental Conditions: Charging can be affected by temperature, so keep that in mind if you’re charging in extremely hot or cold conditions.

Real-World Experiences

Has anyone here actually owned a Bolt EUV? What has your real-world experience been with Level 2 charging? Is it as fast as expected, or have you encountered any surprises?

I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences, especially regarding how well it works for daily commutes and long trips. Any tips for optimizing charging times would also be appreciated!

Level 2 charging for the Bolt EUV typically uses 240 volts and can deliver up to 32 amps. This significantly reduces charging time compared to Level 1, which usually operates at 120 volts and is much slower.

That’s right! It can fully charge the Bolt EUV in about 7-8 hours, given a depleted battery. Very convenient for overnight charging!

I find Level 2 charging incredibly beneficial. With Level 1, you can be stuck charging for over a day! Level 3 does charge faster but isn’t as common to find.

Right, I’m often at home for several hours at a time, so Level 2 is a perfect match for me. Plus, it doesn’t put extra wear on the battery like constant quick charges would.

Absolutely! It’s pretty much the sweet spot for home EV charging. However, how do you handle charging when traveling?

When traveling, I always check for Level 2 chargers in advance to avoid range anxiety. As for Level 1, I only use that as a last resort!

It’s amazing to think how much faster Level 2 can charge compared to Level 1. Just 4-5 hours for a decent charge!

And yet, you’d be surprised how many people still rely on Level 1! I guess convenience is key for many.

Support for Level 2 is crucial in lowering charging times for everyday users. But there seems to be confusion over how it compares to Level 3, which some people assume is always the better option.

True! Level 3 is rapid charging but often found at specific stations, while Level 2 is great for home or work.

Does anyone else find that Level 2 charging can sometimes take longer depending on the equipment? My charger peaks at 24 amps, which affects time.

That’s a valid point, shelly93. Charger performance can vary, and it’s good to check specs beforehand. Efficiency matters!

I always thought charging was simple, but the differences make it an ongoing learning process! So much to consider!

Haha! It’s like a puzzle. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out, there’s something new to learn! But that’s what keeps it interesting.

I usually find that charging my Bolt EUV on a Level 2 charger takes about 7 to 9 hours for a full charge from near empty, depending on the rate of the charger. It’s pretty efficient overall!

Absolutely! I’ve noticed that if I start charging after driving only a short distance, it only takes about 4-5 hours to top off my battery. Lots of variables at play though!

That’s interesting, yfernandez! I’ve had similar experiences. I think the key is to use a good quality charger; I tried a public charger once that was quite slow, and it took forever!

Yes, charger quality really matters! When I used a Level 2 charger at home, I charged from about 20% to 80% in just under 4 hours. But at a shopping center? Totally different story.

For sure! The shopping center chargers are often overloaded or lower quality. I’ve waited over an hour just to get 15% added!
