No real workarounds that I know of. It’s just a feature that comes with the Malibu. But utilizing the manual mode might provide better control!
Using manual mode sounds cool, but can it really help with the Auto Stop? I’m curious about any alternative approaches.
I might just get used to it, but I still think it’s a bit silly. I wish they’d give us a permanent option.
You’re not alone! It’s definitely an area for improvement with Chevy. Hopefully, future models will allow us to disable it more permanently.
I think the engineers must’ve had a funny day when designing this. Who knew stopping at lights could be so complicated! Just kidding… but seriously!
Turning off the Auto Stop feature in my 2018 Chevy Malibu was super easy! Just press the button by the gear shift each time you start the car. However, I noticed that it slightly affects fuel efficiency. Still, I prefer a smoother drive without the stops.
That’s great to hear! I’ve been hesitant but didn’t realize it was just a button. Do you think the fuel savings are worth it?
I’ve been using my Malibu without the Auto Stop feature for a few months now. It feels more responsive, but I did read somewhere that it’s better for the starter to have it on. Not sure how much that matters in the long run.
That’s an interesting point! I’ve also heard mixed reviews; does anyone know if there’s any truth to that?
I turned off Auto Stop right away. Honestly, the biggest advantage for me was not having my car stop at every traffic light. It makes driving in the city feel a lot less annoying!
You’re absolutely right, @jhenderson! I found driving in rush hour much more enjoyable. However, I do wonder about long-term wear on the engine. Anyone have thoughts?
I have a friend who just leaves the Auto Stop feature on for better gas mileage. I’ve been tempted to try his method; has anyone else found that to be more efficient?
I’m curious about that too! If it really saves fuel, maybe we should reconsider turning it off? Hmmm.
I’ve disabled Auto Stop in my car. It definitely improves my driving experience, but I have to admit I have a few spare parts that I worry about failing sooner with all the stopping and starting.
That’s a valid concern, @estradawilliam! But then again, cars are made for this kind of thing. I say if it makes the drive better, why not? Enjoy your rides!
I keep it off as well. The only drawback is occasionally forgetting and having the engine turn off at a red light. I’ve shocked a few passengers! Just gotta keep pressing that button.
That’s hilarious, @stanleyjeremy! I’ll bet that gives your passengers a good story to tell. Still think it’s better off than on though! Anyone else have funny stories to share?
