How's the Gas Mileage on Your Chevy Silverado 2500?

I’m considering getting a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and I’ve been doing some research on gas mileage, but there’s a lot of conflicting information out there.

Can anyone share their real-world experiences regarding the fuel efficiency of different models? Here are a few specific areas I’m curious about:

  • Model Years: Do newer models have better gas mileage, or are there specific years that are more efficient?
  • Engine Options: How do different engine configurations (like V8 vs. standard engines) impact fuel economy?
  • Driving Conditions: What kind of mileage are you seeing during city driving compared to highway driving?
  • Tips for Improvement: Any tips or mods that have helped you boost your Silverado’s gas mileage?

I know that things like driving habits and maintenance play a huge role in fuel efficiency, but I would love to hear from you all. Your insights would really help me make an informed decision!

Have you tried checking your tire pressure regularly? Keeping them inflated to the right level can make a huge difference in fuel efficiency!

I’ve noticed that my mileage improves when I keep up with air filter changes. A clean filter can help your engine breathe better!

Absolutely! I also adjust my driving habits. Smooth, gradual acceleration really helps with gas mileage.

You might also want to consider weight. Removing unnecessary items from the bed can improve your mileage quite a bit.

That’s a good point! I sometimes forget how much extra weight can affect performance.

One trick I’ve used is engine tuning. It can optimize performance and improve fuel efficiency. Have you explored that yet?

What kind of engine tunes have you tried? I’m curious about the differences they can make.

I can’t believe how much people underestimate tire maintenance! Keeping them aligned and rotated regularly can save you dollars at the pump. It’s a no-brainer!

It’s so true! I sometimes get distracted and forget those basics, which ends up costing me.

Honestly, if gas mileage is too much of a concern, maybe a smaller truck is worth considering. Just saying!

While that might be true, I love my Silverado! Let’s not forget it has its perks too!

I like to joke that my Silverado is like a thirsty baby! But hey, I try to implement these tips and it does help a bit!

I’ve had my 2020 Silverado 2500 for about a year now, and I’m getting around 12-14 MPG in city driving. On the highway, I can manage about 18 MPG. Definitely not the best for a truck of this size, but I love the power!

Thanks for sharing! I have a 2019 model, and I’m averaging about 11 MPG in the city. I feel like the 2020 models did improve slightly.

The 2017 Silverado 2500 actually had some good reviews on mileage, especially the Duramax diesel. It can hit around 20 MPG on the highway! What’s your experience with that engine?

I’ve heard great things about the Duramax! I am curious if the higher upfront cost pays off in fuel savings over time. Anyone with that setup here?

I have the 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500, which is pretty similar to the 2020 model. I get around 15 MPG with a mix of driving. Definitely could be worse, especially for a heavy-duty truck!

I might be leaning towards the Duramax for my next purchase—fuel efficiency is important, and I’d like to hear more about real-world experiences.

Honestly, it totally depends on how you drive! I know people with the same model getting vastly different mileage, sometimes as low as 10 MPG due to heavy towing. What do you all drive mostly?
