Looking for Tips on 383 Stroker Cam Kit Upgrades

Can anyone recommend a specific brand of cam kit? I want to make sure I’m getting the best performance for my setup.

I’ve had great success with COMP Cams. They offer various options depending on your goal for the engine.

I encountered some oil leaks after my cam kit installation. Has anyone else faced this? How did you fix it?

Oil leaks are frustrating! Check those valve cover gaskets; they can often be the culprits. I had a similar issue myself.

Tools you’ll need include a cam gear puller and possibly a degree wheel, especially if you are tuning for specific performance enhancements.

This is solid info! I’ve also found using a digital caliper can help with precision during the process.

I’m a bit nervous about tackling this myself. How many hours should I set aside for a first-time installation?

If you’re thorough and take your time, I’d suggest at least a whole weekend. Don’t rush it!

After all, slow and steady wins the race, right? Except if you’re racing… then maybe not! Just kidding!

I’m looking to upgrade my 383 stroker, too! I’ve been researching cam kits and the Comp Cams Xtreme Energie series seems to be popular. They offer a good balance of performance and drivability.

I also found the Howards Cams HR series impressive. They provide excellent throttle response and power gains from mid-range to top-end!

It’s all about your engine goals! If you’re aiming for max horsepower, the Crane Cams 2 series is known for solid power boosts, but it’s not the best for drivability. What are your priorities?

Great point! I wonder how it affects low-end torque, though. Anyone have experience with that?

I installed a summit racing cam kit last year, and it definitely boosted my power significantly. Overall drivability was improved, too. I’d recommend it for a street-friendly setup.

I’ve had the Lunati Voodoo, and it was a sweet upgrade! Solid torque across the board and didn’t lose any drivability. Highly recommend!

What about the sound? Cam upgrades often give a nice rumble. I’m considering how each of these kits might change that aspect.

Absolutely! The sound can be a game changer. A more aggressive cam definitely adds to the thrill of driving our 383s. Anyone else in love with their engine’s growl?

Too true! Just make sure it matches your exhaust setup—bad pairing can lead to weird noises!

That’s a great reminder! I’ve seen some YouTube videos where mismatched combos create a nasty drone. It’s important to do your research on both components.

I keep hearing about the performance gains, but can we really quantify them? I’d love to see some dyno sheets comparing these kits!
