Looking for Tips on Short Tube Headers for My 5.3 Silverado!

You’ll likely need extensions for the O2 sensors. Not a big deal, but one of those ‘while I’m at it’ things to grab from the parts store!

Also, having a good torque wrench is essential. Makes sure everything stays tight and secure, especially with the added heat from the headers.

Absolutely! Does anyone recommend specific brands for torque wrenches or other tools for this job?

I’ve had good luck with Craftsman tools. They are reliable, and you don’t have to spend a fortune. Just check the calibration often!

Speaking of budgeting, it’s amazing how fast the costs can add up! Just wait until you need new gaskets too. What a fun surprise!

Ha! Right? I think I was shocked by how many parts I suddenly needed. A checklist would’ve helped a lot.

A checklist would save so much time! What other modifications might one need to consider for a smoother install?

Sometimes re-routing the starter wire can provide a bit more space. I also recommend using a high-temp silicone for the gaskets - helps seal those pesky leaks!

That’s a great call! Is there a specific type of silicone you all prefer?

I’ve used Permatex Ultra Black before, really held up well. Anyone try something different that’s worked for them?

I’ve had great luck with the BBK short tube headers for my 5.3. They provide a solid performance boost without being overly expensive!

I’ve heard good things about BBK too! Have you noticed any changes in fuel efficiency or torque?

I installed JBA headers on my 5.3 and noticed significantly better throttle response. Highly recommend them! They are a bit pricier but worth it.

Did you have to do any modifications to make them fit? I’ve seen mixed reviews about fitting issues.

Good point, smithpeter. JBA is known for their performance but fitting can be tricky. I’ve had to tweak mine a bit.

If you’re looking for something budget-friendly, I suggest looking at the Hooker headers. They perform decently and are much easier on the wallet.

Hooker headers? I’ve read some mixed reviews on their durability though. Anyone had issues?

I had theirs on my old truck and they rusted quickly. I’d recommend stainless steel for better longevity.

I was considering the chrome plated ones for looks, but I’ve heard they can flake off. Is stainless the way to go?

I say go for stainless! Lasts longer and looks awesome; no one likes rust.
