Need Help: How to Change an Ignition Lock Cylinder without a Key?

I once changed mine and ended up with a couple of screws left over… not reassuring! Make sure everything is tightened back up before testing it.

Light tapping can help align things, but be very cautious! Too much force could lead to breaking the casing.

If you don’t have a key, removing the plastic cover around the ignition area can help you reach the pin. It might make it easier to release the cylinder without additional tools.

That’s a solid tip! What would you say is the hardest part about this entire process? Is it aligning the new cylinder?

For me, it was getting the ignition lock to click into place. I definitely had to try a few angles before it finally worked!

Make sure to look out for any potential binding. Spray a little lubricating oil can be a game-changer. It eases the movement significantly!

Funny enough, I thought I could just turn the cylinder like a regular knob. No luck! Turns out that wasn’t going to work without the right technique.

It’s always a learning experience, right? Just make sure to follow the steps and be careful. Each vehicle has its quirks!

I think that’s the beauty of DIY projects; you learn as you go. Just be sure to take pictures of each step to remember what goes where!

That’s a brilliant idea! I wish I had thought of that when I did mine. It would’ve saved me a lot of time.
