What GM Power Steering Fluid Should I Use?

How about Lucas Power Steering Fluid? I’ve heard it helps with noise and could work well for GM cars. Any thoughts?

I switched to Royal Purple power steering fluid, and it seemed to make my steering feel more precise. Definitely a fun upgrade!

I’m kind of hesitant. Is it really worth trying an alternative fluid? Just want to avoid issues in the future.

Yes! Just be diligent about checking the compatibility with your specific model. A little research goes a long way.

I once made an epic fail with power steering fluid—used the wrong one and ended up with leaking seals! Lesson learned: pay attention to details!

I heard that Dexron III can also work, but it’s best to stick with the latest versions for better performance.

To check your power steering fluid, locate the reservoir and check the dipstick if available. Make sure it’s at the correct level and not dirty.

Does anyone know how often I should change it? I’m thinking annually might be good?

I usually change my power steering fluid every two years. It makes a difference in keeping the system smooth and extending its life.

Two years sounds reasonable! I just want to avoid any premature failures.

If you’re considering equivalent fluids, make sure they meet GM specifications. Otherwise, you might end up causing more harm than good.

Sometimes, people think they can mix fluids from different brands. That’s a big no-no! Stick to your GM-approved ones for peace of mind.

You can top it off, but if you’re hearing noises, it’s best to replace the old fluid too. It might be a sign of deeper issues. Better safe than sorry!

Can I just add fluid without changing it out? My car’s making weird noises, and I want to avoid any unnecessary issues.

Thanks for the heads up! I guess I need to be more proactive with maintenance.

Just remember, regular maintenance will save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run. Keeping everything in check is key!
