That’s true, iharris! I never thought about temperature affecting it. I usually just stick to the mileage for my changes.
I’ve always been told that every 5,000 miles is pretty standard, but I’ve heard some say they extend it to 7,500 with synthetic. Any thoughts?
I’ve gone up to 7,500 myself, but I check the oil level monthly just in case. Can’t be too careful!
Just beware of those who preach extended mileage! I had a friend with a Traverse who went too long and had engine trouble. Stick to what works!
I chuckle a bit; did your friend also think they could skip filters? Stick to shorter intervals if unsure, folks!
Honestly, humor aside, I think 5,000 miles is a safe bet for most driving conditions. Better to be cautious then risk major issues down the line.
I’ve been using Mobil 1 5W-30 in my 2014 Traverse since I bought it. The engine runs smoother compared to the factory oil, and I’ve noticed slightly better mileage too!
I switched to Castrol Edge last year, and honestly, the difference in acceleration was noticeable. I think it might be the best choice out there!
The owner’s manual recommends Dexos approved oil. I’ve tried Valvoline and found my engine to be quieter. Just check for Dexos certification!
Interesting! I’ve never considered Valvoline. Maybe I’ll give it a try when I do my next oil change.
I’ve been using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 for a while now. No problems, and performance is just as good as any other high-quality oil I’ve used.
I used that once and was impressed. I’ve also heard good things about Royal Purple but haven’t tried it yet. Has anyone else used it?
I tried Royal Purple but didn’t notice a big difference. For me, it wasn’t worth the price increase. I’m back to Mobil 1.
I’ve always used the recommended oil, and frankly, I’m too scared to try anything else. Better safe than sorry, right?
I totally get that! It’s hard to change when you trust what’s been working for years.
I did a full synthetic change with some brand I found at Walmart, and forget it. My Traverse didn’t like it at all! Never doing that again.
Yikes! Sounds like a nightmare. What brand was it? I’m curious to avoid any bad oils!
