What to Look For

When searching for a wheel cleaner, I want to make sure it:

  • Is safe for aluminum finishes
  • Removes brake dust and road grime effectively
  • Helps protect against future buildup
  • Is easy to apply and rinse off

I’ve heard great things about Meguiar’s! Does it have a strong smell though?

I didn’t mind the smell. Just make sure to use it in a ventilated area. It washes off grime easily!

I’m still on the hunt for a cleaner. I’ve tried a few, but nothing matches the hype yet. Any recommendations?

You might want to consider Griot’s Garage. I’ve had really good luck with it and it’s safe for all wheel types!

Griot’s is solid! Just remember to apply it in cooler temperatures to avoid streaking.

Good tip! How about using it on dirty tires? Will it mess with the aluminum?

Nope, Griot’s is safe for tires too! Just avoid overspray on the paint. If only cleaning my car was as fun as driving it!

Speaking of fun, have you tried those foaming cleaners? They can be a blast to use but can be messy!

They are entertaining for sure! Just keep a hose ready; it can get pretty sudsy!

At this rate, I might just ignore cleaning and invest in a good set of covers for my wheels!

I always recommend looking for aluminum wheel cleaners that are pH balanced and free of harsh acids. They are safer for both your wheels and the environment.

Great point! I’ve been using a biodegradable cleaner lately, and it works wonders without any harsh chemicals.

I think it’s crucial to avoid cleaners with hydrocarbons and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs). They might get the job done but can be harmful to health and the environment.
