I never thought about studding winter tires! Has anyone tried that?
If you’re looking for a blend of price and performance, the Nokian WR G4 is a great option. They’re around $160. They perform well and are surprisingly quiet for a winter tire.

I’ve read mixed reviews on winter tires. Some swear by the Pirelli Winter Sottozero, while others find them overpriced. They go for $160+.
Pirelli’s marketing does make them sound appealing, but like you said, is it worth the price?

I just want winter tires that will last through a snowstorm without breaking the bank! Is that too much to ask? 
Haha! Right? If only they would knit themselves for free! But seriously, what do you think of the General Altimax? Cheap and decent?
