Dusty areas definitely require more frequent changes! I’ve even heard of people using a catch can to help maintain clean oil longer.
Catch cans can be really effective in certain situations. Just make sure to monitor them closely!
I’m curious, has anyone done UOAs (Used Oil Analysis) to determine the best change intervals? I think it would provide clarity on oil condition.
Great idea! UOAs can give insight into how your oil is holding up. I think I’ll try that next time; it could save me money in the long run.
Isn’t it funny how oil is the lifeblood of our engines? Yet we often forget to check it! It’s worth investing time in maintaining it right.
Totally! It’s the simplest thing, yet so many overlook it. Better safe than sorry, right?
I’ve been using Mobile 1 5W-30 in my 6.0 Vortec for a couple of years now. The engine runs smoothly, and I haven’t noticed any increase in noise. Highly recommend it!
Interesting! I’ve had a different experience with Valvoline. It seems to keep my engine a bit quieter, although I’ve heard mixed reviews.
Valvoline is good too! I’ve used it for years with my Vortec, but recently switched to Castrol Edge. It feels like it has improved my mileage.
Glad to hear that! I’ve heard great things about Castrol. Any noticeable difference in engine temperature?
Honestly, I haven’t seen a drop in temperature with the Castrol, but I love the performance it provides. No engine knocking either!
What about synthetic blends? I’m considering switching to one. Are they worth it for a 6.0 Vortec?
I’ve tried a synthetic blend, and it performed well. Definitely helps with cold starts, but I still prefer full synthetic for long-term health.
Interesting perspective! How often do you change your oil with synthetic? I’ve heard it lasts longer.
I usually change it every 7,500 miles, but I’ve heard some folks going up to 10,000 miles. Just ensure your engine is in good shape!
I’ve been using Supertech 5W-30, and while it’s budget-friendly, I experienced some lifter noise. Maybe I need to upgrade!
Supertech works for many, but the lifter noise can be a sign. If you’re looking to upgrade, I’d suggest trying Amsoil. A bit pricey but worth it!
Amsoil sounds interesting! Do you think it’s really that much better for a Vortec?
I believe so! It has great additives that really help with wear and tear, especially for older engines like ours.
With all this talk about oil, makes me wonder if I should just switch to olive oil for some extra flavor! Just kidding!
