What's the Fuel Economy Like on a 2006 Silverado?

Fuel economy has been a hot topic for the Silverado. I’ve always felt the reported numbers vary widely depending on driving style. But can we talk about how it’s such a solid truck overall? Sure, it drinks gas, but it’s worth it!

Couldn’t agree more! Sure, I’d like better mpg, but when you’re hauling a load, it’s not going to sip coffee! Just gotta accept that it’s not a sedan.

I’ve got to reflect on that! The build quality is phenomenal. When I had mine, I just felt secure on the road, even if the mpg wasn’t perfect.

I’ve had my 2006 Silverado for a few years now. The fuel economy can vary depending on your driving style. I usually get around 15-17 mpg, but I’ve noticed it dips when the truck is loaded heavy.

That sounds about right, but have you checked your tire pressure? Under-inflated tires can really drag down your fuel efficiency.

Good point, clarkjessica! I’ve also found that fuel system issues, like a dirty fuel filter, can impact mileage. Clean filters help maintain better fuel flow and performance.

I’ve noticed worse mileage since I added a toolbox in the bed. Weight plays a significant role in fuel economy, especially in a heavier truck like the Silverado.

So true! If you’re constantly hauling heavy loads, it might be a good idea to look into a lighter loading setup if possible.

I’ve had some engine issues that affected my MPG. A check engine light can signal problems with fuel mixture or spark plugs. Always good to get those codes read.

Absolutely, joel64! It’s essential to stay on top of maintenance. I change my spark plugs regularly, and it seems to help keep my gas mileage from dropping.

Anyone tried using premium fuel? I’ve heard mixed reviews, but some claim it boosts performance and economy, especially with older engines.

That’s a good question. I tried it once, and didn’t notice much difference. But I’m curious what others experienced.

You know, I can’t help but chuckle sometimes. It’s like my truck drinks more gas when I’m happy and driving it with enthusiasm. Anyone else feel that way? Haha!
