Where's the Fuel Pump Relay on a 91 S10?

I’m working on a 1991 Chevrolet S10 and I’ve run into some issues with the fuel pump. I suspect it might be a problem with the fuel pump relay. I’ve searched high and low but I can’t seem to find its exact location. If anyone has detailed information or a diagram, that would be super helpful!

Key Points to Consider

  • Symptoms: My truck won’t start sometimes, and the fuel gauge is acting weird.
  • What I’ve Tried: I’ve checked the fuses and wiring to see if anything looks odd. I’ve replaced the fuel pump just to rule that out.
  • Help Needed: Just need to know where the fuel pump relay is located so I can check it out and hopefully fix the issue.

Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone! I just had the same issue with my '91 S10. The fuel pump relay is actually located under the dashboard, very close to the steering column. It’s a bit tricky to reach, but it’s there.

That’s a good point! I found a diagram online that shows the location. It really helps if you’re trying to visualize it. Let me find it and share!

Here’s the diagram I mentioned! The relay should be near a cluster of wires under the dash. I highlighted the area for better clarity.

Wow, thanks for that visual! It can be really daunting to crawl under the dashboard without knowing exactly what to look for.

If you still can’t find it, check the fuse box as well. Sometimes, the relays are mixed in there too. Good luck!

I’ve also heard that the relays can fail over time. If you’re not getting power to the pump after finding it, you might need a new relay.

Also, don’t forget to check the connections as well. Sometimes, corrosion can cause problems too. It’s all a part of the troubleshooting process.

Agreed! Don’t skip checking the wiring harnesses; loose connections have been the culprit for me before.

Not to sound annoying, but are you sure you’re looking in the right place? Is your interior light on? Just checking! Sometimes it’s the little things.

No offense taken! It’s always good to double check, especially with these older models. They can really surprise you sometimes!

True! Speaking of surprises, finding the relay is way easier than finding my car keys half the time. Ugh!

Haha, I totally get that! If only I could attach a GPS to my keys like my car. Anyway, keep us posted if you find the relay!

Definitely will! Appreciate all the advice here. Just love how we can come together to help each other out!

No doubt about that! Crafting a little community here helps us all out, especially with these classic rides. Let’s keep sharing!

That’s helpful! What are some symptoms that might indicate it’s failing?

Common failure symptoms include fuel pump not priming, engine stalling, or difficulty starting. You might also hear clicking noises from the relay area if it’s going bad.

Thanks! How can I troubleshoot it? Any specific steps?

Start by checking the relay itself. You can swap it with another one in the fuse box just to see if that solves the issue. Also, check the wiring and connectors for any signs of corrosion.
