2016 Malibu Radio Not Working – Need Help!

I’m having trouble with the radio in my 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. For the past few weeks, it has been completely unresponsive. Here are some details:

Symptoms:

  • No sound at all, even when the volume is turned up.
  • The display lights up, but it doesn’t respond to any button presses.
  • I tried switching it from AM to FM, and even connecting my phone via Bluetooth, but nothing seems to work.

Things I’ve Tried:

  • Resetting the Infotainment System: I attempted to reset it by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds. The system restarted, but the problem persists.
  • Checking the Fuses: I looked at the fuse box. The radio fuse seems fine, but I could be missing something.
  • Inspecting Connections: I opened up the area around the radio and checked for any loose wires or connections. Everything appears to be securely connected.

Questions:

  • Has anyone else experienced this issue?
  • What steps did you take to resolve it?
  • Is there a quick fix or do I need to take it to a dealership?
  • Are there any specific tools I might need if I decide to troubleshoot further?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi! One common reason for radio issues in the 2016 Malibu is a blown fuse. You might want to check the fuse box to see if any fuses related to the radio are burned out.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea fuses could cause this. Are there any specific fuses I should look out for?

Definitely check fuse #24 under the dash. That one’s often responsible for the radio. Also, you may want to check your car battery; sometimes, a weak battery can cause electrical problems.

Good point! How do I reset the radio if these fixes don’t work? Any software glitches I should be aware of?

Resetting the radio can help with glitches—usually holding the power button for about 10 seconds does the trick. If that doesn’t work, it might be worth checking for software updates.

Speaking of updates, has anyone here experienced this issue due to software? I wonder if I need to connect to a dealer to get updates.

I haven’t had software issues, but I think a dealer might have the latest fixes if your car is under warranty. Worth asking!

Exactly! If you can, check the user manual. They usually provide basic troubleshooting steps specific to the Malibu’s radio system.

I’ll definitely check the manual! By the way, has anyone considered that the radio itself could just be faulty? I know it sounds obvious, but it happens.

It could be faulty! My friend’s Malibu had to have the entire unit replaced at a dealer after a similar issue. Just sharing my experience!

Wow, I hope that’s not the case! But I’ll keep all options open. Worst comes to worst, a good playlist can always save the day—radio or not!

Haha, I agree! Music can always lighten the mood, even if the radio’s being difficult. But really, don’t overlook those fuses people!

For sure! Let’s keep updating each other if anyone finds a solution. We need to keep our tunes rolling!

I hear you! First, try resetting the radio system. Turn the car off, and then press and hold the ‘power’ and ‘seek’ buttons simultaneously for about 10 seconds. This might help restore functionality.

If that doesn’t work, check the fuses! A blown fuse can easily cause your radio to stop working. Look in the owner’s manual for the fuse box location and which fuse controls the radio.

Also, check the wiring behind the radio. Sometimes connections can come loose over time, especially if the radio was replaced or serviced before. It’s an easy fix if that’s the case!

Don’t forget to check if your car’s battery is good, as a weak battery can lead to issues with the radio and electrical systems. A quick jump start could make all the difference!

Great point! Also, have you tried the old-school method of just turning it off and back on? Might seem silly, but you’d be surprised at how often it works!

Has anyone tried the manual reset? Turn off the ignition, unplug the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect it. This sometimes helps reset the electronics completely.
