Hey folks,
I’ve been on the hunt for a used SBC aluminum block for sale and I’d love to tap into your collective knowledge!
What I’m Looking For
I’m especially interested in options that might fit classic Chevrolet builds but I’m open to newer models as well. Here are a few specs I’m considering:
Condition: Looking for something not too worn out. Performance is key!
Brand: Open to recommendations on which brands have the best reputation for SBC aluminum blocks.
Price range: What’s a fair price these days for a used block?
Where to Look
I’ve scoured sites like eBay and Facebook Marketplace but haven’t locked down a good deal yet.
eBay has some listings but they seem a bit on the pricey side.
Facebook Marketplace has a mix, but I’m not always sure about the sellers’ reputations.
Other Sources?
Are there any specialized forums, groups, or even local places you’d recommend checking out for good leads? Any experiences or advice you can share?
Let’s Discuss!
I know there’s a ton of knowledge in this community about building and modifying Chevrolet engines. So if you’ve got tips, tricks, or even horror stories, I’m all ears!
Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it!
I’m looking for used SBC aluminum blocks too! I’ve seen some listed as ‘like new’, but I wonder if that really justifies the higher price. Are they actually worth it?
I totally understand! I’ve purchased a ‘good’ condition block before and it performed well without breaking the bank. Sometimes ‘like new’ can mean overpriced.
The condition really matters. I’ve found that ‘fair’ condition blocks often just need a little cleanup and can still be gems for performance builds. Just check for cracks!
That’s a great point! I had a ‘fair’ condition block that just needed some honing, and I ended up saving a ton. Quality vs. price is the name of the game!
It’s really important to consider the seller’s reputation, too. A ‘like new’ block can be a gamble if the seller isn’t trustworthy. Ask for receipts or a history!
Some people swear by going for ‘like new’ blocks, thinking it’s a no-brainer. But honestly, with proper research, you can snag a high-quality ‘good’ block for less.
I once visited a guy selling a ‘like new’ block, and it turned out to be just a fresh paint job with plenty of hidden issues. It was like a bad relationship! Haha.
I found a couple of used SBC aluminum blocks on eBay going for around $1,200. The sellers had good ratings, so I’m considering it. What do you all think is a fair price?
