Anyone replaced leaf springs on a 1957 Chevy?

Does anyone worry about the ride quality after replacing the springs? Mine feels a bit stiffer now, not sure if it’s just me.

It can definitely feel different, especially with new springs. The stiffness is often a good sign that they’re providing better support, though.

Just make sure you don’t go overboard. If it stiffens too much, you might need to switch to a softer compound! But hey, at least you’ll feel every bump!

I’m currently considering upgrading the leaf springs on my '57 Chevy. I’ve heard that aftermarket options like the ones from Eaton Detroit can improve handling significantly. Anyone had experience with them?

I installed Eaton springs on my '56, and they transformed the ride! You get less body roll in turns and a more controlled feel overall.

In my experience, using a stiffer spring can enhance cornering, but you might sacrifice some comfort on rough roads. It’s all about finding the right balance for your needs!

Totally agree! I didn’t realize how much a good set of springs could change the ride until I made the switch.

I’ve been reading about some aftermarket springs from Hotchkis. Has anyone tested their products specifically on a '57 Chevy? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Hotchkis is a solid choice! They offer great performance without too harsh a ride, perfect for street driving.

Don’t forget to consider the bushings! Upgrading to polyurethane bushings along with new springs can make a world of difference.

Does anyone here think it’s better to keep the original leaf springs for a classic appeal? I’m torn between performance and keeping things original.

I hear you! It’s a tough choice. But if you value performance, upgraded springs can still be a nod to classic driving without losing your Chevy’s charm.

You know, if I wanted the car to bounce like a trampoline, I would have left the old springs! Just kidding, but seriously, a new set can make all the difference on the road.

It’s important to consider your driving style too. If you’re cruising mostly, a softer spring might work better, but if you’re into spirited driving, then stiffer is the way to go!
