Can You Add Apps to the GMC Rear Entertainment System?

I recently got a new GMC vehicle with the rear entertainment system, and I’m wondering if it’s possible to add apps to it.

Background

My family often travels long distances, and I think having some additional apps would really enhance the experience for my kids in the back seat. I want to know:

  • Can I download games?
  • Are streaming services like Netflix or Hulu available?
  • Is there a way to add any other multimedia options?

Current Setup

From what I’ve gathered, the entertainment system comes with a few built-in options, but they seem limited. I’ve seen some posts online about the potential to modify these systems, but I am not sure what the risks might be or whether it voids any warranties.

Seeking Advice

Has anyone successfully added apps or modified their GMC rear entertainment system? What options do I have, and could you share your experience? I’d love to hear about any steps you took, what worked, and any pitfalls to watch out for.

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!

I’ve read that you can add a few apps to the GMC rear entertainment system, but they seem to be fairly limited. Does anyone know which streaming services are available?

I’ve been using Netflix and Hulu, and they work well on the system! Just make sure you have a good WiFi connection.

I heard that Disney+ is also compatible. My kids love using it during long trips! Anyone else has experience with that?

I tried installing YouTube, but it keeps crashing. Not sure if it’s an issue with the app or connectivity. Anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I faced similar issues with YouTube crashing. I’ve had better luck with Netflix though. It’s smoother on my GMC system.

Is there a possibility to sideload apps on the GMC rear entertainment system? That would really expand our options!

That’s a bummer! I was hoping to play some mobile games on it. What a wasted opportunity for some fun on the road!

I know, right? They should really consider adding more apps or upgrading the system.

I’ve had great success with Disney+ and even some educational apps that my kids love. Definitely keeps them busy!

To install apps, go to the settings menu on the GMC rear system. Follow the prompts for ‘Manage Applications’ to add new ones.

Thanks, matthewbrown! I’ll definitely give that a try. What apps have you successfully downloaded?

Have you checked your internet connection? Sometimes it can be spotty, which causes issues!

So true! That said, it still feels a little outdated. Who even uses DVDs much anymore?

That would be fantastic! Integrating more modern technology would really improve user experience.

Yes, you can use HDMI to connect a tablet! Just ensure the tablet supports HDMI output. It’ll mirror whatever you’re watching!

Anyone else found a workaround to this app limitation? Wouldn’t it be great if we could customize our entertainment options more?

I’ve also heard that some new GMC models may come with improved systems in the future. Fingers crossed that means better app support!

That’s right! It’s a bummer, especially when you want to access newer apps. You might need to rely on tablets or mobile devices instead.

Hey foxshane! You can typically add apps via a USB connection or Wi-Fi. Make sure your system is updated first!
