Chevy Equinox Won't Start After Battery Replacement - Help Needed!

I’ve recently replaced the battery in my Chevy Equinox, but now it won’t start. I’ve double-checked all connections, and everything seems secure, but no luck. I’m reaching out because I need some advice on what to check next.

Possible Issues to Consider:

  • Battery Connections: Even though I tightened the terminals, could there be a corrosion issue that I missed?
  • Fuses: Are there any specific fuses related to the starting system that might have blown during the battery swap?
  • Ignition System: Could the ignition or starter be getting affected by this battery change? I haven’t done any work on those parts recently.
  • Electrical Systems: Are there common electrical issues that might happen when replacing the battery on a Chevy Equinox?

What I’ve Tried:

  • Re-checking and cleaning the battery terminals.
  • Trying to jump-start the vehicle, but it still doesn’t crank.
  • Confirming that the new battery is fully charged.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or has tips on what to look out for, I would greatly appreciate your input. Could this be a simple fix or something more involved? Looking forward to your suggestions!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a similar issue after replacing my battery. It could be a connection problem or a blown fuse. Double-check those connections to make sure they’re tight and clean.

Definitely check the fuses! Sometimes a small issue can prevent the car from starting, and it’s an easy fix.

Also, don’t forget to inspect the ignition system. A faulty ignition switch may be an issue, especially after battery work. It happened to a friend of mine!

Good point! Ignition issues can sometimes go unnoticed until something like this happens.

If the battery was installed incorrectly, it could result in starting issues too. Make sure the positive and negative terminals are hooked up right!

I almost installed mine backwards last time—what a mess! At least I remembered before anything bad happened.

Exactly! Any loose wires could definitely cause a no-start situation.

It’s not just that, but also be wary of corrosion on the battery terminals. That can impede current flow and lead to starting problems.

Good catch! That’s a simple thing to check that can save you a lot of headache.

You know, bad weather can also play a part. If it’s super cold or humid outside, that can affect starting too. Has that been a factor for you?

It was pretty chilly when I did mine! I wouldn’t have thought about that.

Make sure you disconnect the negative terminal first before removing the old battery. This can help avoid any electrical shorts during the process!

Good tip! Also, double-check that you have the correct size and specifications for your new battery. Not all batteries fit every vehicle.

I had a similar issue when I replaced my battery. After installing, I forgot to secure the connections properly which led to starting problems. Always check those connections!

That’s crucial! A loose connection can definitely cause starting issues. Don’t forget to clean the terminals too.

It’s also worthwhile to reset your car’s computer after a battery replacement. Sometimes it helps clear any starting issues.

I’m curious, did you check if the new battery has a full charge? Sometimes a brand new battery can be dead on arrival.

Great question! A simple voltmeter can tell you if it’s charged properly. Have you tried that yet?

When securing the battery, don’t overtighten the connections. It can damage the terminals, leading to more problems down the road.
