Crackling Noise When Accelerating - What Could It Be?
I’ve recently been hearing a crackling noise coming from my Chevrolet Malibu when I accelerate, and it’s really starting to concern me. I’m not sure if it’s something serious or just a minor issue that I can fix myself.
Symptoms
The noise seems to happen only when I press the gas pedal, especially when I accelerate quickly. It’s not a constant sound, but it comes and goes, and it has a somewhat annoying crackling quality to it.
Things I’ve Checked
Engine Noise: I didn’t notice any unusual engine noises, but I am not an expert on car sounds.
Under the Hood: I’ve checked the basics, like oil levels, and everything seems fine.
Exhaust System: No visible leaks or cracks in the exhaust that I could see.
Questions for the Community
Has anyone else experienced this type of noise in their Malibu?
Could this be related to something in the engine or transmission?
What would be the best course of action to diagnose this issue?
Any tips for potential fixes or things to check would be super helpful!
I appreciate any insights or experiences you all can share. I really want to get to the bottom of this before it becomes a more serious problem. Thanks in advance for your help!
Have you checked the heat shields? A loose or damaged heat shield can cause a crackling noise when accelerating. Check that they’re secure and not touching any parts of the exhaust.
Exactly! A quick visual inspection can go a long way! Try tapping around the wheel area while someone accelerates slowly to pinpoint if the noise changes.
