Help Needed: 2016 Chevy Malibu Rear Knuckle Bushing Issues

I recently noticed that my 2016 Chevy Malibu has been feeling a bit off. After some investigation, it seems like the rear knuckle bushings might be the problem. I’m looking for some advice on a few things:

Replacement Parts

  • Where can I find quality rear knuckle bushings for my Malibu? Are there any preferred brands or specific parts I should avoid?
  • Can someone recommend a good online store or local mechanic that specializes in Chevy parts?

Repair Instructions

  • Has anyone done a DIY replacement of the rear knuckle bushings? If so, what tools do I need, and how complicated is the process?
  • Are there any detailed guides or videos available? A step-by-step would be super helpful.

Compatibility & Issues

  • What symptoms have you experienced when the rear knuckle bushings are worn? I want to make sure I’m not missing anything.
  • Are there related components I should inspect while replacing the bushings? I want to make sure everything’s in good shape to prevent future issues.

I appreciate any insights or experiences you can share regarding the rear knuckle bushing in the Malibu. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve been experiencing some strange clunking noises when going over bumps. Could this be a sign of worn rear knuckle bushings?

Yes, I’ve noticed the steering feels looser than before, especially during turns. Is this another sign of bushing issues?

Absolutely! Poor handling and loose steering can point to worn bushings. I’d recommend checking them soon.

I’ve also noticed uneven tire wear. Could that relate to the bushings too?

Yes, uneven tire wear is often a sign of suspension issues, including worn bushings. You’re definitely on the right track!

What kind of noises should I specifically listen for? Clunking can mean various issues.

Good question! Besides clunking, you might hear squeaking or rattling sounds. These can definitely suggest worn bushings.

I feel like I need a degree in mechanical engineering to figure this out sometimes!

Haha, I get it! It’s frustrating feeling like you need to be a car expert just to understand issues like this.

After reading this, I think I might have to schedule a check-up. Better safe than sorry!

I’ve replaced the rear knuckle bushings on my 2016 Malibu. You’ll need a basic tool set, including a jack, socket wrench, and a bushing kit. Make sure to support the car securely! The hardest part was pressing out the old bushings.

What brand of bushing kit did you use? I’ve heard some are better than others.

I used the Moog kit, which worked well for me. The installation wasn’t too bad, but I did struggle with the torque specs on my first try. Don’t rush it, double-check everything!

Make sure you have good lighting where you’re working. A clear view really helps, and sometimes you might need a friend to hold the light while you work.

Haha, right? I learned that the hard way when I replaced my front suspension last year. Can’t see a thing in the dark!

I’m concerned about the alignment after replacing the bushings. Do you need special tools for that, or can it be done with a standard setup?

Alignment is crucial! I recommend taking it to a shop afterward. They might have the tools you wouldn’t typically have at home.
