Seeking Advice on LT4 Supercharger Installation on 5.3
Hey folks,
I’ve recently been contemplating upgrading my Chevrolet 5.3 engine with an LT4 supercharger, but I’m hitting a few roadblocks and could really use some advice from fellow enthusiasts.
What I Need Help With:
- Compatibility: Has anyone done this install on a 5.3? What specific components should I have to make this work?
- Performance Gains: For those of you who have done the swap, what kind of performance enhancements did you notice? Is it worth the investment?
- Installation Process: I’m looking for any tips or tricks that could simplify the installation. Are there any common pitfalls I should be aware of?
- Parts List: What additional parts might I need aside from the supercharger itself?
My Current Setup:
I currently own a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with a stock 5.3. I love the truck, but I’m looking to squeeze some more power out of it, and I’ve heard great things about the LT4 blower.
Any Recommendations?
If you have experience with this upgrade or even if you have suggestions for alternative setups, I’m all ears! Pictures of installations or past projects would also be a big help to understand the process better.
Thanks in advance for your insights!
I’ve been thinking about installing an LT4 supercharger on my 5.3, too. I’d love to hear about the tools I might need for this project. Any suggestions?
Make sure you have a socket set, torque wrenches, and a good set of screwdrivers! I found that having everything organized before starting made a huge difference.
I’ve read that there can be a fitment issue with the LT4 supercharger on the 5.3 due to clearance with the hood. Has anyone faced this problem?
Yes! I had to use a smaller air intake to prevent clearance issues. It was a hassle but totally worth it.

Absolutely! It really makes a difference in how smoothly everything runs post-installation.
I think the biggest obstacle was actually removing the old intake manifold. It felt like a workout. Any tips on that?

Yeah, that part can be difficult! Using a breaker bar can help get those stubborn bolts out. Just be careful!
That’s great advice! Also, some PB Blaster beforehand can work wonders on rusted bolts.

I recommend putting the supercharger on a scale before installation to ensure it’s balanced; that can help with performance stability.
Is it really necessary to change the fuel injectors when adding a supercharger, or can I get away with stock ones?
You might want to upgrade them. Stock ones might not handle the increased fuel demand very well.
This installation has been both fun and frustrating. Just remember to take breaks when needed, or you’ll end up making mistakes.
True! I broke a few clips because I was rushing. Laughter is the best medicine, especially when you want to cry over car repairs!
Exactly! You can have a great time working on it if you keep a good sense of humor!
Installing an LT4 supercharger on a 5.3 can really boost your horsepower! You can expect gains of around 200-300 hp depending on your setup. But don’t forget about tuning to ensure reliability.
That sounds awesome! What kind of tuning options do you recommend? I’m guessing a custom tune is necessary?
Absolutely, a custom tune is essential! You’ll want to adjust the ECM settings for fuel maps and ignition timing to optimize your gains without risking engine health.
