Looking for 98 S10 Front Bumper Options and Advice!

I’m in the process of looking for a new front bumper for my 1998 Chevrolet S10, and I’m hoping to get some advice from those who have been through it. I’m not sure whether to go for an OEM replacement or if there are some good aftermarket options worth considering. Here’s what I’m thinking:

OEM vs. Aftermarket

  • OEM Parts: I’ve heard that going with an OEM front bumper guarantees a perfect fit and quality. Has anyone had a positive experience with this?
  • Aftermarket Choices: On the flipside, I’ve seen some cool aftermarket bumpers that could give my S10 a more unique look. What brands should I be looking at? Any specific recommendations?

Installation Tips

If you’ve done this swap before, I’d love to hear about the installation process. Are there any tips or tricks you can share? Also, how difficult was it? I’d like to know whether it’s a DIY job or best left to the pros.

Price Point

Lastly, I’m trying to budget for this. What’s a reasonable price range for both OEM and aftermarket bumpers? I want to make sure I’m not overpaying for something that isn’t worth it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! Looking forward to your responses.

I’m looking to upgrade my 98 S10 bumper as well! I’ve heard that both OEM and aftermarket options can fit, but it’s essential to check the compatibility with your specific trim. Anyone found a perfect fit?

I’ve had good experiences with the Street Scene bumpers. They fit well but may require a bit of trimming in some areas to match perfectly.

If you’re considering OEM, make sure you source it from a reliable dealer. The fitment is generally better and reduces the chances of needing modifications.

I went with a fiberglass bumper from an aftermarket source. While it looks great, I did have to modify the mounting points a little. Just a heads up if you take that route!

Was the fiberglass bumper hard to fit? I love the look but worry about durability.

Not too hard, but it can be fragile, especially during installation. Just take your time, and you should be fine!

Also, consider the weight of different materials. Steel bumpers provide more durability but can weigh you down. What are you leaning towards in terms of material?

Good point! I’m a bit worried about the weight since I use my S10 off-road sometimes. Any lightweight options worth considering?

I found some aluminum options that are surprisingly sturdy and light. They might suit your needs if off-roading is a priority!

Are there specific brands you recommend for aluminum bumpers? I want something reliable.

Take a look at the Deegan 38 bumpers. They are well-reviewed for durability and fit! Plus, they look pretty rad on an S10.

Just make sure to read reviews! I’ve seen some nasty fitment issues with certain brands. It’s always good to check forums for real user experiences.

You know, finding the right bumper option feels like a treasure hunt! Why can’t we just order the perfect one without the hassle?

I’ve replaced my 98 S10 bumper a few times. First, you’ll need a socket set, screwdrivers, and possibly a heat gun if the clips are stubborn. Start by removing the old bumper bolts from the frame.

Great advice, Catherine! I did the same with my S10. I also recommend checking for any rust on the frame while you’re at it. It can save you a lot of trouble later!

For installation, line up the new bumper to make sure everything fits. You might want a second person to hold it in place while you screw it in. That makes it easier!

Yeah, teamwork makes it super easy! Just be careful not to drop it! I learned that lesson the hard way when I was working on mine.

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot those pesky clips that refuse to come out? I fought with mine for hours last time. Heat seemed to help, but there’s got to be a better way!

I feel your pain, Brady! Try using a flathead screwdriver to gently pry them out, and apply some lubricant if they’re really stuck.
