Need help finding a 64 Impala wiring diagram!

I’m currently working on restoring my 1964 Chevrolet Impala and I’ve run into some issues with the electrical system. I’m trying to figure out the wiring, but I’m really struggling without a detailed diagram. Can anyone share where I can find a good wiring diagram for the 64 Impala?

What I’m Looking For:

  • A clear wiring diagram that shows all connections
  • Any resources or manuals that might help me troubleshoot electrical issues
  • Tips from anyone who’s done a similar restoration or repair

Background:

I’ve already taken apart some of the wiring harness and I have labeled a few things, but I’m not confident in what goes where. The last thing I want to do is fry any components or end up with a messy setup.

I’ve been using some generic wiring diagrams, but they seem a bit too simplified and are missing detail specific to the ‘64 model. If anyone has a scanned copy of a service manual or even a link to a good resource, that would be amazing!

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

If you’re looking for a reliable wiring diagram for a '64 Impala, I recommend checking out the forums on Chevytalk. They have a dedicated section for classic Impalas with lots of shared resources.

Great tip, Edward! I found some useful PDFs on eBay, too. Just search for ‘64 Impala wiring manual’ and you might snag a deal!

You can’t go wrong with the original factory service manual. It’s usually available on sites like Amazon or even your local library!

I found some wiring diagrams on the Old School Chevy forums, you might want to check there. They have a good archive of many classic models!

Totally agree! Factory manuals are the gold standard. But if you’re in a pinch, online communities often share scanned diagrams.

Chevy forums can be a treasure trove. I’ve found diagrams in the community shared files section that saved me hours of work!

eBay really does have it all! Just be sure to check the seller’s ratings before purchasing.

Don’t overlook local auto parts stores! Some carry repair manuals and might even have wiring diagrams in their files.

Good point! Those forums are full of enthusiasts who love sharing their knowledge. Just don’t expect them to have diagrams for every wire color—some things are still a mystery.

Lol, true! But if only they sold patience and a sense of humor for when you’re stuck wiring it all up!

I totally feel you on that! The wiring in the '64 Impala can be tricky. A great starting point is to look for corrosion on the connections. That would be a common issue to tackle first!

I’ve found a wiring diagram online that might be helpful! Check out the classic car forums; they usually have great resources.

If you’re having issues with lights flickering, it could be a bad ground connection. Always double-check those first before diving any deeper into the wiring harness.

I had the same issue with my Impala! It turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. Have you checked that yet?

Totally agree with you, a solid ground connection is key! Also, make sure to inspect the wiring for wear and tear.

I’ve heard that many '64 Impalas struggle with a malfunctioning fuse block. Check the fuses regularly; they can sometimes break without obvious signs.

When I was fixing mine, I wrote down all wire colors and positions. It helped avoid confusion when reassembly. Have you tried anything like that?

I second that! And don’t forget, those old fuses might not look blown but can still be faulty. A continuity test can help.

Wiring issues can be a real pain, can’t they? What about the battery terminals? Sometimes, it’s the simplest things that cause the biggest problems.
