What’s the Best TH350 Shift Kit Out There?

Hey fellow Chevy enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into the world of TH350 transmissions and I’m on the hunt for the ultimate shift kit to enhance my vehicle’s performance. I’ve heard a lot about brands like B&M and Transgo, but I’m looking for some real-world insights from folks who have actually installed these kits.

Why Consider a Shift Kit?

Installing a shift kit can significantly improve your car’s shifting performance. It can provide:

  • Better Shifting Firmness: Helps achieve a sportier feel while driving.
  • Increased Engine Performance: Can lead to better acceleration due to optimized shift points.
  • Enhanced Longevity: Some kits are designed to prolong the life of your transmission.

Questions I Have:

  1. What’s your experience with different brands? Did you go with B&M, Transgo, or another? What did you notice after installation?
  2. Any installation tips? I’m planning to tackle this myself. What do I need to know before getting started?
  3. Upgrades vs. Drivability: Is there a notable difference in drivability with different kits? I’m aiming for performance but I don’t want my daily drive to turn into a rough experience.
  4. Potential Downsides: Are there any trade-offs I should be aware of?

I’ve tried several TH350 shift kits, and I can say the B&M Transpak really enhances performance. The shifts are much quicker and more decisive! Highly recommend it for any serious build.

That’s great to hear, jfisher! I’ve been considering the Hughes Performance Shift Kit as well. I’ve heard it has awesome feedback on shift firmness.

I’ve used the TCI Streetfighter kit and found it delivered fantastic acceleration. The driving experience is just a blast compared to stock. Worth every penny!

I can second that! The right shift kit really changes the feel of the car, making it feel much sportier overall.

I’ve been reading about the performance difference between kits. Is there a noticeable improvement in shift times with all of them?

Great question! Generally, yes. Most kits aim to reduce shift times significantly, but personal preferences play a big role too.

From my experience, some kits do create a harsher ride. It really depends on what you’re looking for—more performance or a comfortable daily driver.

True, that’s why I’m leaning towards the B&M. I want an upgrade without sacrificing too much comfort.

I had a good laugh when my buddy said the shift kit turned his TH350 into a ‘race car’! It’s more fun, but let’s not kid ourselves, right? :joy:

Humor aside, any kit can boost performance if set up correctly! Just make sure to balance your vehicle for the best results. Reflect on what you really need from your shifts. :thought_balloon:

I’ve installed a B&M TH350 shift kit and it completely transformed my transmission’s responsiveness! The installation wasn’t too tricky, but watch out for the snap rings; they can be a pain.

I had a similar experience with the B&M kit! It really tightened up my shifts. Just make sure you have a good transmission oil cooler, as it can run a bit hotter afterwards.

I’ve tried the TransGo shift kit and it was a solid improvement. The instructions were pretty clear, but I ended up stripping a bolt because I was in a hurry. Lesson learned—take your time!

Yikes! I can relate to that. During my installation of the Hughes Performance kit, I mixed up the valve body bolts. Had to redo everything, which added an hour!

I went with the TCI kit, and honestly, it was like night and day! Installed it with my dad and we had a blast. Just don’t forget to have the right tools handy.

That sounds amazing! Having a buddy or family member definitely makes the process more enjoyable. I did the same but my brother just wanted to take selfies instead of helping!

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the TCI kit, though. Some say it’s overkill for street cars. Anyone faced issues with drivability afterwards?

The TCI kit worked great for my street car, honestly. It makes a big difference, but tuning is essential! Don’t skip that step.

I had some trouble with the installation of the B&M kit too, but it pays off! Make sure to follow the torque specs; it matters. Who knew a tiny bolt could cause so much trouble?
