Which Fuse Controls the License Plate Lights on My Chevy?

I’m having some trouble with my license plate lights. They don’t seem to be working, and it’s pretty frustrating, especially since I need to pass inspection soon. I’ve done a bit of troubleshooting and checked the bulbs, but I’m starting to think it might be an issue with the fuse.

Does anyone know which fuse is specifically for the license plate lights on Chevrolet vehicles? A diagram would be super helpful if possible.

Things I’ve Tried:

  • Checked the bulbs: Replaced them, and they still don’t work.
  • Looked into the fuse box: I noticed there are multiple fuses, but I’m not entirely sure which one I should be checking.

Additional Info:

  • Model and Year: I have a Chevy Silverado, 2016 model.
  • Previous Issues: Had some electrical issues before, but nothing related to the lights directly.

I would really appreciate any advice or insights on this. Anyone else run into this issue or have any tips? Thanks in advance!

To identify the fuse for the license plate lights on your Chevy, check your owner’s manual. It usually lists the fuse box layout and specifies which fuse corresponds to the lights.

That’s great advice! I’ve found that sometimes the labels on the fuse boxes can be faded. Using a flashlight helps to read them better!

If you don’t have a manual, you can often find fuse layouts online specific to your Chevy model. It’s super handy!

Exactly! I’ve printed out a few for my different vehicles. It saves time when troubleshooting.

Then there’s the issue of fuse type! Most Chevys use mini fuses for the license plate lights, but it’s best to double-check.

Right! I made the mistake of assuming the wrong fuse type once, and it caused a bit of confusion!

In addition, checking for corrosion on the fuse can save you time. Sometimes it’s not blown but just has a poor connection.

Good point! Cleaning the contacts can definitely help with those intermittent issues!

Does anyone know where the fuse box is located specifically for the Chevy Silverado 2018? I heard it might be under the dash?

You’re right, the main fuse box for a 2018 Silverado is typically under the dash on the driver’s side. There’s also one in the engine compartment!

I’ve also heard different models may have their fuse types depicted differently. Any tips on that?

Yes! Labels can vary by year and model. That’s why I always check multiple sources if I’m unsure.

And remember to ensure your car is off when checking fuses! You don’t want to accidentally short something out.

True! Safety first. Nothing worse than a little zap while troubleshooting!

Also, if you’re ever in doubt, local auto parts stores often can help check fuses for you. Just bring the old one in!

That’s so helpful! I love those stores; they always have the best advice!

To check the license plate lights, look for the fuse specifically labeled for them in your fuse box. It’s often the same fuse as the tail lights. If your tail lights are also out, you probably have a blown fuse.

Great tip! Additionally, if you find that the fuse is intact but the lights aren’t working, it might be an issue with the wiring or the bulbs themselves.

I had a similar issue with my Chevy. The fuse for the license plate lights is usually a 15 amp fuse. It’s crucial to replace it with the correct amperage.
