Best AFM Disabler for GM – Recommendations Needed!

I’ve been looking into ways to effectively disable the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system in my Chevrolet truck because it’s been causing some performance issues, and I’d like to improve both the engine responsiveness and fuel efficiency.

Why Disabling AFM?

I’ve read a lot about how AFM can lead to unwanted behavior changes in the engine, especially during acceleration. It seems to activate at strange times and I’ve heard from fellow GM owners that it can lead to a rougher driving experience. I want to find a reliable solution that can help get rid of this issue.

What I’m Looking For

I’m hoping to gather recommendations from anyone who has experience with different AFM disablers available for GM vehicles, particularly any that have worked well for Chevrolet models. Here are a few points I’d like to get feedback on:

  • Ease of installation – How user-friendly are these products? Can someone with basic mechanical skills install them?
  • Performance improvement – Have you noticed an increase in power or smoother operation after using the disabler?
  • Durability and reliability – Do they hold up over time? Any issues after installation?
  • Any potential downsides – Are there any side effects or issues people should be aware of?

Options I’ve Considered

So far, I’ve come across a few options like the Range Technology AFM disabler and some custom tunes available for certain Chevrolet models. If anyone has tried these or has other suggestions, I’d love to hear your experiences!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Check out the Range AFM Disabler! It works well with a lot of GM models, including your Silverado. Just make sure to double-check the compatibility for 2018 specifically.

I agree with wjohnson! The Range device is really popular. Just make sure you have the right firmware version for your model year.

I have a 2020 GMC Sierra, and I used an AFM disabler from Torque. It’s been great since my truck runs smoother without AFM. Highly recommend checking it out!

I’ve heard good things about Torque! Does it affect fuel economy at all, or has anyone noticed a difference?

Actually, I’ve seen mixed results. Some users report no change in MPG, while others noticed an increase. It should depend on your driving habits.

Has anyone tried the BDX tuner for AFM disabling? I heard it allows for customization beyond just disabling AFM.

I have the BDX for my 2017 Chevy and it’s fantastic! Easy to use and I can feel the difference. Just remember to get a custom tune if you can.

How do the tuning options in these devices compare? It seems like there’s a lot to consider with each one.

That’s a great question, Veronica! The BDX offers a lot of flexibility, while the Range is more plug-and-play. Depends on your comfort level with tuning.

True! If you want something super simple, I’d stick with the Range. It’s just easier and reliable.

I appreciate all the advice, guys! I guess it comes down to whether I’m in the mood for tuning or just a quick fix.

I’ve been using the Range AFM disabler for about six months now. The improvement in engine response is unbelievable! I noticed I could accelerate much quicker, which makes a big difference in daily driving.

That’s awesome! I was considering the Range too. Did you see any changes in fuel efficiency?

I can confirm the fuel efficiency did improve slightly! I went from about 18 mpg to around 21 mpg in mixed driving. Totally worth it!

That’s great to hear! I’m currently using the BBP AFM disabler. Performance is fantastic but I haven’t tracked fuel mileage closely. I’ll have to start paying attention.

Good info! Any noticeable difference in overall driving satisfaction with the BBP?

Definitely! The throttle response feels much more direct and the ride is smoother overall. My driving experience has really changed for the better!

What about long-term reliability? I want to ensure there won’t be any issues down the line with the AFM disabler manufacturers.
