I’ve been having some trouble with the AC in my Chevy Equinox, and I could really use some help. Here’s what I know:
Symptoms
- The AC doesn’t blow cold air.
- There’s a strange smell when I turn it on.
- The blower fan seems to be working, but the air isn’t cool at all.
What I’ve Tried
- Checked the AC low-pressure line for any signs of leaks or damage.
- Added refrigerant to see if that would help, but it didn’t change anything.
- Looked at the fuses and they all seem to be intact.
- I even cleaned the cabin air filter, thinking that might be an issue, but no luck.
Questions
- Has anyone else experienced this issue? What did you do to solve it?
- Are there any common diagnosing steps I might have missed?
- Should I take it to a mechanic, or is it something I can potentially fix myself?
Additional Info
- My Equinox is a 2015 model, and it’s starting to get pretty hot here, so I’d love to get this sorted out soon!
- I’m not super experienced with car repairs, but I’m willing to try some troubleshooting if anyone has suggestions.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
I’m sorry to hear your AC isn’t working! Common issues can range from refrigerant leaks to compressor failure. Have you checked the fuses yet?

Good point! It’s worth checking the fuses first. A blown fuse can easily cause the AC to stop functioning.

In my experience, the compressor often fails after a few years of use. If the AC is blowing warm air, it might be the culprit.

That’s true! The compressor issues are pretty common for Equinoxes. Have you had any strange noises from under the hood?
Also, don’t forget about refrigerant leaks. If you notice any puddles under your car, that might be a sign. AC systems should be leak-tested!
Absolutely! A refrigerant leak can really hurt the performance. Get a professional to check it out if you’re uncertain.

I recently had similar issues, and it turned out to be a simple fuse replacement. You might get lucky too!
Haha, that’s great to hear! A quick fix can really save you a lot of hassle.
Anyway, what’s with those AC systems? They’re always failing when you need them the most! It’s like they plan it.
Right? It’s like every time summer rolls around, my AC goes on strike. Hopefully, it’s just some simple troubleshooting for you!
Can I ask where you’re located? Sometimes certain regions have more issues with AC systems due to weather extremes.
I’m in Texas, so it’s definitely AC season all the time! I do hope to get it checked soon.
Just keep your spirits up! Whatever the issue is, you’ll get through it. Let us know how it goes!

Hey there! First things first, check if the AC settings are in the right mode. Sometimes it’s just a simple switch that needs to be adjusted! Let me know if that helps.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check that out. What about the cabin air filter? Could that affect it too?

Absolutely! A clogged cabin air filter can restrict airflow and even impact the AC performance. Be sure to inspect it regularly.
So true! I replaced mine last month and it made quite a difference. I wish I had done it sooner!
If you’ve checked the settings and filter, try inspecting the AC compressor. If it doesn’t engage, you might need to look further.

What if it does engage but still isn’t cooling? Could there be other issues at play?
